Book a lesson with Scott!
I am finally offering zoom lessons! The video above explains my teaching philosophy, what to expect, and why I don’t recommend taking lessons from me if you’re a complete beginner. Please also read this whole page before booking a lesson to avoid any frustration and misunderstanding!
If you’re considering lessons, I STRONGLY recommend that you become a Patron of my online school. A whole year of membership costs less than one 55 minute private lesson. My school offers frequent live Q&A’s featuring my camera guitar, fun community writing challenges, and a library of over 200 lessons so far. If you’re not familiar with the basics of music theory and the CAGED System, I strongly recommend spending some time on my Patreon BEFORE taking private lessons.
Before booking a lesson please make sure you have the following:
• A decent internet connection capable of handling zoom meetings
• A laptop or other device with a camera that lets me see your hands while you play guitar
• A device with a big enough screen to let you see my hands and my whiteboard
• A quiet place to do lessons without outside distractions
Other helpful ideas:
• If you wear headphones to hear me, I’ll be able to hear you better, too! Playing my voice through speakers can sometimes cause your audio to be muted or garbled on my end.
• Get to know Zoom software before our lesson so we can spend more time learning and less time troubleshooting. If you plan on sharing your screen for recording software help or you have multiple sources of audio plugged into your computer, it’s crucial to understand how that stuff interfaces with your computer. Try calling a friend or two on Zoom before our lesson - be sure to use the computer you’ll be using for our lessons.
Keep in mind:
Guitar lessons won’t magically make you a better guitar player. My job is to guide you toward specific concepts and techniques to work on, to help you understand WHY those things will be helpful, and to help you understand what progress looks like while you’re practicing. If you don’t practice, you will not improve. If you’re struggling with HOW to practice, talk to me about it in our lesson.
AGAIN, PLEASE WATCH THE ABOVE VIDEO BEFORE BOOKING A LESSON!
• If you’re not interested in being creative, you will not enjoy our lessons
• If you’re not curious about writing riffs, chord progressions, and melodies, you will not have fun
You know the old saying “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, but teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
My goal is to teach you how to fish. I want to get you to a point where you feel self sufficient as a musician, capable of figuring out and learning what you want, capable of jamming with people or writing parts you like on guitar or bass- even learning to record yourself like a pro! When you learn to make your own music, you start to feel an intrinsic motivation to play music.
The window below is for scheduling one lesson at a time. After our initial lesson, you may request regular weekly lessons or continue using this page to schedule lessons at your own pace.
